Mark Durbin, General Manager

Mark Durbin Mark C. Durbin was named President and General Manager, succeeding Daniel R. Scalf, who retired effective February 1, 2013.  Prior to this promotion, Durbin was Assistant General Manager, a position he assumed in 1997.

Durbin served as a board member of Cremation Association of North America (CANA) for six years between the years of 1999 and 2007, and is currently on the association’s education committee. He is a CANA-certified Crematory Manager and Operator. Additionally, he is currently an active member of the ICCFA, KCA and SCA.

Durbin has strong family ties to The Lexington Cemetery.  He is the second generation of his father’s family and the third generation of his mother’s family to be employed at The Lexington Cemetery.  During his youth, he lived in a house located on the Cemetery property.  While attending high school and college, he worked on the grounds of the cemetery from 1973 to 1982. He began working with the office staff in 1983 and was promoted to Assistant General Manager in 1997.
       
Durbin graduated from Lafayette Senior High School in 1976, attended Eastern Kentucky University (1976-1977) and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1984 with a BA in Business Administration.  He continued his education with horticulture classes at the University of Kentucky. Additionally, Durbin is a graduate of the International Cemetery, Crematory and Funeral Association University, Memphis, Tennessee.   

He plans to maintain and manage the Lexington Cemetery with the same dedication and care that has made the Lexington Cemetery one of the most beautiful and historically significant cemeteries in the nation. The Lexington Cemetery is destined to remain one of the natural treasures of the Kentucky’s Bluegrass region now and in perpetuity.
